People say that pitta is located in the stomach area, so any postures that aid in digestion seem to help balance your pitta. Postures like Apanasana and Pavanamuktasana (double leg wind reliever), shalabahasana (locust), paschiomottanasana (double leg seated forward bend), arhda matsyendrasana (half seated twist). These postures should serve you well in downward motion of energy, keeping the stomach and internal organs stimulated and moving.

I have heard that any postures that you end up forcing yourself into aggravates the pitta dosha, due to the firey nature of it. I think it’s important to listen to that. So if headstand comes easily for you, feel free to do it, just maybe don’t hold it beyond what is fun and comfortable. I think that is a good guideline for the rest of your postures as well… So perhaps avoid pulling yourself into strong twists or really forcing a strong backbend. Good luck!

Pitta resembles heat, so any heat building postures will likely exacerbate your pitta. If you are trying to keep things moving, try doing a slow surya namaskar, or taking standing postures with a shallower stance, and don’t feel like you have to hold them as long.
