Hot and dehydrated

I've started Bikram since April 08, attending class 6 times a week. I naturally after the first few Biram classes developed a thirst for water, drinking at least 6 cups of water by the time I get to my class. . By the end of the day, now, however, I have 10-15 cups of water because during class itself, I am drinking at least 8 cups. I have some pretty great instructors who talk about the discipline, and "taking sips" but it is hard when internally I feel so hot and dehydrated. Should conitnue to drink or should I start kicking the habit? Does this have an effect on my health and pratice?

I don't think it's possible to drink too much water! Good job!!!

Drinking water during practice can shock your system, it's better to hydrate before. If you feel hot inside, that's good, that 's the purpose of the practice. Try to sit with that heat and only take water if you feel dizzy or you absolutely need a break.

When I drink water like that during practice it sits and splashes around in my stomach. I find it more distracting than helpful. The water bottle sitting on the side of the mat is also an open invitation to escape from difficult postures by taking a break. Perhaps if you leave your water bottle with your shoes, so it's close by but out of reach, you will come to a place where you can challenge yourself more deeply in your practice. Give it a try.
