Experiencies at a heated vinyasa class
Posted by odelinda12/16/2009 1:26:40 PM
I am relatively new to yoga practice and now have been consistently attending a heated vinyasa class for about 6 months. My problem is by the time I get really hot, my nose starts running and makes proper breathing impossible. I have to blow my nose once every few minutes and I am not able to regain steady breath until we move out of the warm-up sequence. Not only is this extremely annoying for me, I also feel like I am annoying fellow students. I don't have allergies, and this doesn't happen to me at the gym or anywhere else. Anyone else experience this?

Sometimes that happens when you have a lot of mucous in your body that is dormant due to cold… Heat makes it all flow, so perhaps you should only practice in a non-heated environment. Even a room that is 78 degrees F can build a good sweat during practice. Perhaps try again in a few months once you feel clear in your sinus system.

That used to happen to me when I first started practicing hot yoga. Be patient with yourself and try not to stress too much about it. Pick a spot in the corner where you wont disrupt too many people and blow your nose quietly. If it’s still happening 3-4 months talk to your doctor or instructor

I haven’t experienced this but I understand why it would happen. It’s important to try and come to class clear, so maybe try some aromatherapy or netty pot before class.
