Yoga after running

I have a strong regular yoga practice (4-6 times a week of led ashtanga, power, or mysore) and semi-regular running routine. I am embarking on a series of in-depth yoga workshops that will involve quite a bit of daily practice, so I'm trying to strengthen my yoga practice a bit more before starting the workshops. I'm also running in a 10K in about a month, and thus don't want to cut the running out, either. Any reasons not to go to yoga right after running?

It sounds like you are very rigorous in your workout routine. I don’t think it’s bad to try combining the two in one day, but that could make you really exhausted with the intense yoga you are doing! Perhaps if you find this tires you out, you can try to instead take a more restorative or relaxing yoga class with a deeper focus on stretching after a run, instead of power or mysore.

The only downside I could think of to doing yoga immediately after running is that your body might begin to cool down really fast in the yoga class and you could overexert yourself.

I think that if you are doing yoga as a supplement to your running routine it will take you very far. If you keep things rigorous and intense, you will get in really good shape. But the focus on flexibility and alignment in your yoga classes will help keep you balanced. Good work!
