Upward - Facing Dog - Urdhva Mukha Svasana

Lie on your stomach on the floor. With the elbows bent, place the palms on the floor beside your waist, keeping the forearms perpendicular to the floor and the fingers facing forward. Inhale and slowly straighten your arms while lifting your torso up and raising the legs a few inches off the floor. Direct the gaze straight ahead or slightly upward. Hold the position then release.

Benefits:

  • Upward-Facing Dog can help to relieve sciatica, asthma, mild depression and fatigue.
  • It improves posture and stimulates the abdominal organs.
  • This posture strengthens the spine, arms, wrists and buttocks, and stretches the chest, lungs, shoulders and abdomen.
