Cobra - Bhujangasana

FULL COBRA   HALF COBRA

Lie on your stomach on the floor. Place the hands under the shoulders with the elbows facing back toward the body. Inhale and slowly straighten the arms while lifting the chest off the floor. Hold the position and then release.
If this is too intense for you, you can perform the variation “half cobra”. Instead of the hands, place the forearms on the floor.

Benefits:

  • The Cobra pose strengthens the spine and buttocks, stretches the chest, lungs, shoulders and abdomen, and stimulates the abdominal organs.
  • It can help to relieve stress, fatigue, sciatica and asthma.
  • This pose opens the heart and lungs.
Traditionally, the Cobra pose is said to increase the body heat, destroy disease and awaken kundalini.
