Yes you can hurt yourself if you don’t do it properly.
Fear is good in moderation, it is like a protection mechanism.
Don’t hesitate to ask your teacher to watch, and assist you closely when you try to do it next time in class.
You also have to learn the steps to do it. It is not difficult. It’s all about balance.
