Mula (moola) means root and is located near the sex organs. This is stimulated by contracting the sex organs, the navel, and the rectum. This motion consists of three parts: First the anal sphincter is contracted, next the sex organs, and lastly the lower abdominal muscles and the navel contract toward the spine. There is an upward and inward feeling to this movement.
This bhanda balances and stimulates the energies involved in the navel, rectum, and sex organs by redirecting the excess of sexual energy into creativity and body repairs.
Mula Bhanda blends Prana and Apana at the Navel center .
This can be applied when the breath is either in or out. However, this cannot be done with Uddiyana Bhanda because we need to use the diaphragm muscles to breathe in, and this can not be held during inhalation.
Prana and Apana must be pressured and mixed through Mula Bhanda, at the base of the spine and the generated heat will rise up the Kundalini. Mula Bhanda cannot be perceived by the naked eye; it is an internal lock.
This movement improves digestion, skin problems, and massages the liver, kidneys, and spleen.
