Hi, Many thanks for putting together such a wonderful site and offering the opportunity to ask questions. My question relates to basic sitting poses. I would like to slowly implement correct sitting both in my yoga practice and throughout day in general. At the moment, I’m very inflexible and do not find myself able to do most of the easy sitting poses with straight back. Only in Vajrasana sitting straight is doable, but after a while (less than 10 mins) legs/ankles need to be relieved out of the posture. Hence, I find myself sitting “incorrectly” whenever sitting down (whether on a chair or not), although it’d be really nice to be able to work and read in a correct sitting posture. Perhaps some standing or other poses are particularly helpful to help flexibility in the parts of the body that are stressed while trying to sit straight?Any advice on how to implement an easy, comfortable and sustainable way of sitting properly would be very highly valued! Thanks a lot in advance for any suggestion you could give,Ruben
Answer
Sat Nam,
The most important thing when sitting is to have the spine straight.
