I heard it’s not good to eat right before yoga. Is that true? Is it better to be starving or to have just eaten?
It’s true, it really is best to practice yoga on an empty stomach. Give it a try someday! You would be amazed at how much energy you still have in your body. – KaliGirl
Sometimes I find myself famished as I walk in the studio, and it’s definitely harder for me to practice. So I try to drink juice and water in plenty before I go to class. It definitely helps me stay focused when I am really hydrated. And I also try to be better about planning my meals. I will snack at noon and then have a sandwich or something around 2:30 if I am heading to class at five. Hope this is helpful! Namaste! – LalitaMa
I eat before yoga class all the time and never have any problems. I never eat big meals though, I always only snack, so that could contribute to why. I eat like a bird, but all day long, so I can’t really imagine myself not having a little something before class. – CHATuranga
I see people chomping on granola bars before class all the time. I don’t like to do that, but I suppose if you make sure to chew your food a lot before swallowing it would be okay. Sorry to sound gross, but it’s much easier on your digestive system if you can break up your food more rather than less. I always notice the food in my stomach, though, even if I eat a big meal two hours prior to class. And that’s no fun, knowing what you are hauling up and down your mat the entire time! – ShantiB
