I have been trying to meditate for a couple months now, but my main problem is that after I find a comfortable position to try and meditate in, my body gets stiff after a while, no matter what position I try. If I try to re-adjust myself, it only gives temporary satisfaction, and eventually I just get annoyed and decide to give up and go to sleep. Does anyone have any suggestions?
Sit still as long as possible! Eventually you will get used to it and it won’t be as uncomfortable. But by moving in and out of postures you are not working to become more disciplined. You should try to let this become part of your meditation, in my opinion. For meditation is really an experience of letting go no matter what your circumstances are around you.
My teacher suggests sitting in a chair if you are very uncomfortable. This way you wont become as easily distracted and can work on your foundation a little bit better.
It is important to be still. It does take a lot of practice… for many, years of practice. Use pillows, props, chairs, and don’t become discouraged. It is important not to judge your efforts, but applaud them. This way you will be more likely to continue to do your practice.
