What other exercise do you do to go hand in hand with your Yoga routine?
I like to practice one yoga class a week to complement my running. I am training for a marathon and the one day of yoga makes me feel like I am still working out, but I get to stretch and relax at the same time.
I practice yoga five times a week, and like to incorporate biking, some light weight lifting, cardio, and core work into my routine. While yoga is my primary form of exercise, I do like to mix it up. And the yoga makes me feel stronger and more balanced when I do other types of exercise, because it has increased my awareness of my body on the inside. I understand my body’s mechanics better and have better alignment than other people in my cardio classes.
I like to do seated meditation practice for ten minutes before and after doing asana. I find it helps keep me centered, and brings a greater intention and purpose to the practice.
I love doing Pilates! I find that it goes hand in hand with yoga quite nicely, because the core strength I get from Pilates makes me stronger in yoga class, and the flexibility I have gained from doing so much yoga has helped me in Pilates, too!
