The Light Within: Session Four
Dr. Joan Borysenko was the last presenter. Dr. Borysenko is a Physiologist and scientist, who became known as a one of the pioneers of mind-body medicine. During her presentation she covered many subjects, but her outstanding ability to show her grace and spirituality was wonderful.
She shared with us part of her personal history. We sang old songs, and blessed one another.
One of the anecdotes was her experience when her mother passed away. She spoke of her negative and distant relationship with her mother. She thought her mother was hard, judgmental, and cold. Nevertheless, she was with her mother, along with her son in the hospital room before her mother died. After saying their good byes she saw this white Light. She seemed to merge with the light along with her mother.
In addition she saw holographic images of her mother’s life at the same time. This was included in part of Dr. Moody’s discussion concerning the bystander’s experiences.
She then said good-bye to her mother and when she opened her eyes she was in the room that was fill up with light, and her son was lying down in bed next to his grandmother.
Her son said: “Mom, can you see, the whole room is full of light. This is grandma’s last gift…” and then he continued with something that surprise even Joan because she didn’t know where he got this from, “You should be grateful to grandma, because she took a shorter life to bring you here”.
Personal Conclusions
It seems we all come from a vast ocean of energy, and that it has being granted to us the experience of exclusive property of this soul for a limited period of time inside of this physical body. My spiritual teacher, Yogi Bhajan, said “that the probability of having this human experience is the same as surviving in the middle of the ocean on top of a piece of wood”.
Being inside this physical body can somehow isolated us, and it is only through love that we can feel again the sensation of being in union with everything around us. I’m not referring to the platonic love of two partners, but to the true love for oneself and for others. Only in the precise moment we are in love and grateful, we are out of pain.
But, somehow we seem to forget to give thanks on a regular basis.
Compassion, kindness, love for one another – those being first and foremost. Earthly achievements are temporary so focus is needed on the present moment for love.
The ancestors who have passed are the ones who open the doors for communication.
Time, as we know it, doesn’t exist. Human beings create time in order to account for things. When you let go of time you know you are gathering peace.
It is innate to us to look for “something more”, through different things, some good, and some bad for us. It is as if unconsciously we knew of it, and we are longing to merge into that “pure essence” state.
We search and search always look outside for what always was inside!
This week rereading “The Yoga Sutras of Patanjali” I found this, and I thought of sharing it:
“Saint Thirumoolar said, “A person was running and running in search of the Light. He spent his whole life doing that. Ultimately he collapsed and died because he could not reach it.” Millions and millions of people collapse in this way because they don’t know that the Light is within.
Another saying of his is, “Even if you practice Yoga for eight thousands years, you are not going to reach the Light.” By this he means the external Yoga: reading books, learning all the scriptures by heart, going to pilgrimages to all temples, ashrams, and churches in the world. That is all Bahya, or external practice. Some people waste thousands of years in such effort. If we only look within, we will see the Light as if we were seeing our own image in a mirror…” Sutra 27, Pg. 122
