The PMS sensation is different from the menstrual period. PMS starts around the second week after the cycle. PMS has two different types of symptoms: physical and behavioral.
Some of the reported behavioral symptoms include depression, angry outbursts, irritability, anxiety, confusion, and social withdrawal. If depression lasts all month long, it is not PMS. In that case, you should consult a doctor. Some of the physical symptoms reported are breast tenderness, abdominal bloating, headache, and swelling.
All of these symptoms are due to the changes of hormones in your body. If any of these symptoms are so strong that you cannot keep up with your normal activity, you most likely have an unbalanced menstrual cycle.
Some studies suggested that this is due to changing levels of brain opiates. This hormone affects the mood and behavior. The first week after you ovulate, the opiate levels are high and this is associated with binge eating during this time. During the second week after ovulation and the last week of your menstrual cycle, the opiate levels start to fall rapidly, even more so if you have PMS. This is associated with irritability, short temper, anxiety, tension, and in same cases aggression.

To heal PMS and other hormonal imbalances, one has to take care of the food they intake. When suffering from PMS symptoms, it is best to eat light, eat fresh whole foods, eliminate processed food completely, and sweat every day. Sweat detoxifies the body. If this is too strenuous, you can start with a daily walk.
The mind also plays an important role in the way we feel. Yoga and mediation is a great solution to listen to and tune into our bodies. One has to learn to get rid of negative thoughts and emotions. It’s said that a positive thought is far more powerful than a negative one. Every thought has a feeling linked to it, and every feeling has an emotional reaction. This condition the way we feel.
The mind likes to spin with thoughts that link to other imaginary thoughts. Once we are caught in this spin of thoughts and the consequent emotions, the mind doesn’t know how to separate what happens for real and what doesn’t. You may be getting mad because you think that a friend of yours betrayed you and you keep spinning this thought, along with all the things you would like to say to this friend in your next conversation and all the things you should have said in your last conversation, all the while mentally visualizing all of this happening, and so on. All of this creates emotions whether they are happening or not. You start to feel angry, frustrated, sad, and so on. Then you may receive a phone call and realize that your friend had never actually betrayed you. Nevertheless, all those 2 hours, 2 days, or 2 months that you mentally played through all this negativity creates an emotional state. It wasn’t even real, but your emotions were real. That’s why more and more people want to learn to meditate and access the infinity within them.
